SPARK Arts Day - Makuru Arts Festival

5-11yrs old

SPARK Arts Day is a hands-on, high-energy celebration of creativity designed especially for primary school–aged kids. Across one action-packed day, young people can dive into a range of artforms-

Puppetry, circus and acrobatics, move with dance, make music, explore improv, and get stuck into visual arts.

Led by some of Western Australia’s leading artists, each workshop is all about play, imagination, and discovering new ways to express yourself. Kids can drop in, try something new, and follow what sparks their curiosity.

Come for an hour or stay all day—this is a space to experiment, create, and have fun.

SPARK Arts Program

Drop in at any time between 10-3pm to create, mark make, paint and find new ways of art making. Led by Kate Hannah this drop-in style workshop is the perfect place to discover hidden talents and pick up tips.. No booking necessary.

Music

Gather for a playful and interactive music circle where stories come to life through sound, rhythm, and movement. Using beloved picture books as inspiration, students will explore musical storytelling by creating imaginative soundscapes with handheld percussion instruments, voice, and movement.

Circus

Roll up, the circus is here! Join Acrobatch for 45 minutes of circus where you'll learn the basic skills across a range of different circus props. Featuring juggling, hula hoops, spinning plates and more, this workshop is great for improving motor skills, coordination and focus all while having a good time. Perfect for both beginners and budding circus stars alike.

Acrobatics

Join Acrobatch for a fun and energetic partner acrobatics workshop! Learn how to safely stand on your friends (or be stood on), lift people and enjoy moving together. This 45-minute session will help with strength building, coordination and the ability to work as a team and you might even make a new friend along the way.

No prior experience necessary - only a sense of adventure is required, however age limits (8+) do apply and will be strictly enforced for the safety and wellbeing of all participants.

Parents and guardians acknowledge that acrobatics involves some inherent risks and, by having their child participate, they are voluntarily accepting all associated risks that come with learning and doing acrobatics. If you have any uncertainties about this, please chat to one of the Acrobatch trainers before the start of the workshop.

Improv Comedy

Libby is very serious about being silly and mucking around. She will show you how to work together to make the impossible come true, tell stories that are wild, and solve problems in a very not-normal way.

Step into the imaginative world of puppetry and performance. In this engaging hands-on workshop, participants will explore how puppets can be used to tell stories, create characters, and bring performances to life.

Puppetry

Led by talented puppeteers, students will learn a range of puppetry techniques and styles including hand puppets, marionettes, and body puppets, while developing creativity, confidence, and collaborative performance skills.
